A lot of package files lag your game and you will end up having very long loading times. The game does not seem to care that much how large the files are but does care about the number of files.

Package files can be combined manually or by using a tool.

Oct 27, 2020 Compressing a file is ideal when you want to make a file smaller or if you need to compress multiple files into a single packet. For instance, if you need to email a 12mb file but your limit is 10mb, you can compress it down to 7mb. Then, the other person can decompress the file to open it. Click the + icon to select a video from your PC/Mac to compress. Step 2 Select file settings to compress video. The added file with its details will appear on the interface. To compress file size, change the parameters of video resolution, format, file size manually, and move the progress bar to change video bit Rate and quality.

Saved Game Files

• Don’t combine Hacks/Mods. They need to be checked/updated with every patch
• Know what’s in the combined files. Keep a Excel Sheet or something so that you know what is where when you need to get rid of something
• Don’t delete the original files. You will need them again, if you want to get rid of stuff. Unmerging is rather tedious.

  I have been researching and trying out many ways for the past 4-5 days and none has ever pass or meet my expectations. I understood a lot ever since i began researching. But right now...just particularly for this file format: ISO i have heard of 'ISO compressors' but that topic is mainly related to 'PSP ISOs'...not really for 'PC' i couldn't find anything about ISO compressors for PC games... at the very most at Yahoo Answers which they even recommended a few softwares like DVDshrink or smth else. i tried but the results is like....u save only 1% of the original size of the game file. why i am doing this is because: 1) i do not want to split files as this will end up using an extra DVD for each game 2) rejoining splited files is troublesome...as you have to copy the files from the 2 DVDs to your computer and then rejoin them AND then install the game. 3) Compressing the files save me from using an extra DVD, money from buying more DVDs, some environmental space in my room and of course more convienient. 4) creating backups of my games or to LAN with my friends if we ever want to. So with technology today...is it possible for ISO files to be compress to at least 50% of their original size? its amazing how PSP ISOs can achieve this...probably due to their low size. I hope i will find an answer here. its been a long learning journey and not having to find one solution to this...you know how it feels. Thank you.

  i remember back in the day when i had an 80mb hard disk I had some on-thefly DOS program that would compress the stuff on the HD, ended up with about 120mb of storage instead. can't for the life of me remember what it is though. and its not what you're looking for either, just jogged my memory so thought i would share.

  I use 7zip to archive ISOs, compresses most stuff quite well.

  i tried 7zip....didnt go well... like for example i tried on Kane's Wrath ISO file...just 1 file worth of 7GB +... In the process of compressing....at around 60-70% if i can recall....the compressed file was already pass 5GB....which isn't what i want....since my aim is to reduce it to at least 50% or below 4.7GB so that i only need to use 1 DVD. for PSP issue...they converted to CSO...another file format....from ISO to CSO...which was able to reduce the original size of any game by more than 50%. Thanks for the very quick replies though. greatly appreciate it. have yet to find a solution.....

• Not really, no. PSP game discs use a lot of blank filler to put files in optimum positions on the disc for being read (to aid load times). When you compress the ISO it strips out this blank filler, which is how you can save so much space. PC games don't do this.

  oh well...i guess that explains it... looks like im gonna have to waste an extra 5DVDs... Thanks for that detail on psp's iso.

• Yeah, DL = dual-layer. DVDs that hold 8.5GB instead of 4.7GB

  or buy another hard drive. 60quid or so for a 500gb these days. thats 100 5gb games

  well...i do have a hard drive...not 500GB though....just 100GB and not a very good solution for lending to my friends for LAN purposes......which is my main purpose.... that would cost more...and deem my currently purchased DVDs as.....useless..... nvm...i guess theres no way to compress them.   Being serious 7zip can actually do a reasonable job....but it get all techy with word length etc. and you need all the ISOs to be in the same archive. If the word length is big enough it'll find similarities between parts of all the ISOs and use that to compress. BUT.... you need a very powerful machine with bucket loads of memory. Even the 6Gb on my machine wasn't enough to do a decent job on 4Gb files. Also a shrink of 200Gb to 120Gb took my 3GHz dual core 36 hours. It tends to work out that the decompressing machine needs a tenth of the memory of the compressing machine, but it'll take at least 30 minutes and up to an hour to extract a single ISO.

  Am I reading this right? Lack of HD space? WTF?!?! 1TB drives are about 95 quid nowadays. I left HD space issues behind about 10 years ago. You should do the same.

  a lot of pc dvds game data are already in compressed format - mpeg, divx, mp3. likewise even in days of yore, id's pak files were already compressed. you will struggle to compress video and audio data further, but will have better luck with application and document files.

  Yep, just get an external drive. You can get decent 500Gb ones for £60.

  Fastest you'll get over USB2.0 is maybe 30MB/sec tops. You may improve it by getting building an external RAID and using eSATA, but I doubt it would be worth it. Buying an external HD case unit and then buying the fastest 3.5' SATA to put in it would be the most cost effective IMHO.
